Therapeutic Assessment

A therapeutic assessment helps you answer one or two meaningful questions about your thoughts, behaviors, or life patterns. Through an intensive process, we clarify your concerns, explore underlying factors, and collaborate to determine next steps.

This collaborative process designed to answer one or two specific questions or concerns you have about your life, thoughts, or behaviors. Unlike other assessments that focus primarily on diagnosis or symptoms, a therapeutic assessment is meant to provide insight, self-awareness, and clarity on a question or two that concerns you, especially if you are unsure of next steps.

To see if a therapeutic assessment is right for you, schedule a brief conversation with Kristen.

A therapeutic assessment is a collaborative process designed to answer one or two specific questions or concerns …

… the process begins with a conversation between you and Kristen to identify your specific questions or concerns. You might want to clarify a diagnosis, understand patterns in your thoughts or behaviors, explore why certain challenges continue to impact your life, or determine the next steps for treatment. Together, we define the focus of the assessment, so it addresses what matters most to you.

Therapeutic assessments are especially helpful if you want to –

  • Confirm or clarify a diagnosis
  • Understand the underlying causes of ongoing challenges
  • Make sense of why certain strategies have not worked in the past
  • Determine the most effective next steps for treatment

Once the goals are clear, Kristen uses a combination of interviews, standardized tests, and other measurements to provide insight into your concerns. The initial assessment typically takes about two hours, with an optional 30-minute follow-up session if needed.

After the interview and testing process, Kristen prepares a detailed written evaluation. Once a draft is ready, we meet for an hour to review it together. This is a collaborative stage where you can ask questions and ensure the evaluation meets your needs. Kristen explains findings in a clear and meaningful way and discusses next steps in detail. Recommendations may include ongoing work with Yellow Sky Psychological Services, LLC, or a referral to another provider who can best meet your needs.

By combining humanistic principles with evidence-based methods, Kristen ensures the process is scientifically grounded, supportive, personalized, and empowering. A therapeutic assessment provides insight, clarity, and actionable guidance to help you move forward.
